What if the other cats see it? They'll lose all their natural feline dignity.

dipped his right paw in the water and sipped from it. I'd forgotten all about that strange behavior until I read your post.

6. Hunting?

Aug 2018

My newly acquired cat is a great hunter. Somebody apparently dumped her in my neighborhood. She had a collar and tag, but the guy wouldn't return my calls. There was an address on the tag, so I looked it up and found a name. I found the guy on Facebook and actually saw pics of the cat, along with six kittens that she had last year. He was trying to get rid of all of them. I messaged him and he wouldn't answer. She had three kittens on my back patio before I could get her spayed, but as soon as she realized I knew they were there, she hid them. I kept feeding her, of course, and the kittens started showing up for food when they were about two months old. Try as I might, I wasn't able to tame them.

I finally decided I'd have to trap them before they got old enough to have their own babies. It took a week, but I finally did capture them all. They're about 3 1/2 months old now and have been "in custody" for over a week. Mom is spayed now, and has all of her shots. I allow her to go outside because she has made it loudly obvious that she doesn't want to be kept inside. She has tried to bring in lizards four times now, and it's starting to get old. (She has succeeded twice - that I know of, that is.) My plan is to get those kittens spayed/neutered this week so I can let them go back outside. I had wanted them to be tame before releasing them, but I'm starting to think it's not going to happen.

Anyway, maybe there's prey in that puddle.

It sometimes seems from a distance that cats don't have much personality or differences (in comparison to dogs) But each has their own quirks and quarks. Some more surprising than others.

I have a spray bottle for when they act up. Four get out of dodge if they see me with it. The black and white tuxedo just sits there looking at me almost as if he's saying, "bring it on". You won't win. After a few squirts, I stop. He licks off the water and returns to harassing the orange and white. When I holler 'cut it' he takes off. All five have given me years of love and soften my day. So does vice-chancellor my 65-pound pointer-setter mix. He's a big baby until someone approaches he does not know. He transforms enough to make strangers stop walking up to the door. "Good dog", and he gets his treat after I quiet him down. One thing right in the creation of this little ball of dirt done right...pets for people.

Tigers and Turkish Van cats will submerge themselves to cool down. When I'd take my boys on long term contract work to Charleston, SC o ER the summer, they'd spend the days hanging out in the damp tub or bathroom sink to stay cool.
