My elder daughter, who works in the fashion/garment field in New York City, was just in Malibu for a spectacular wedding. He boyfriend went along, and apparently the scenery, the sunsets, the food and the general good mood must have been infectious. They are now engaged! Oh, and they are also on a plane to Japan, as an aside note. I guess they figured "as long as they were in the neighborhood" or something. How come I never got to do stuff like that?
Dayyum! My proposal to my wife was made as a suggestion over the phone while I was in an office in Boston and she was in an apartment in a gritty industrial town in Germany. Her acceptance was a nonchalant "works for me."
One of the daughters of some of our best friends got engaged on the same day (timing not planned). Our son-in-law to be was born in Russia, has lived part of his life in Israel, breezed through Columbia University in 3 years (one of THOSE types), and anyway, our daughter was born in Germany and keeps her German citizenship along with her US citizenship. Our friends' son-in-law to be is from India. Their daughter's grandfather was Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, of Russian Jewish heritage.
Trump doesn't like people from other countries coming to live in the USA? Sorry, pal, better get used to it! You're surrounded!

(54,410 posts)Since my younger daughter is very happy with her boyfriend (and father of her recent-as of May 25-baby daughter), there have been hints of my girls following the example set by my brother and myself 36 years ago, namely a double wedding. The only difference this time is that all parents would be fluent in English and/or German or both.
But you know what? If it means I only have to go through this once, I'll find the money somehow!
