My cat is an edge-walker

Have you ever noticed how cats like to walk on the edge of stuff?

Even thin stuff. I have seen my cat balance and walk on 1-inch thick railings. Even if she has the option of walking on a thicker part of something, she chooses the edge every time.

So fun.

would prance along the back of a patio bench which was a 1x4 slat, she could run down the top rail of a hurricane fence and race up a tree trunk at lightning speed, just like her squirrel buddies showed her.

We lived in a third floor condo with very high ceilings in an old building, so we were probaly 45 feet up. She would go on the old service porch in the back of the condo and walk around on the thin rail. There was nothing but concrete below. Used to scre the crap out of me!

I don't think I would let me my cat do that. They can slip.
Sounds like yours are okay.

It's in front of the big windows above his computer desk, so there's a "view" of the bushes and drop-off behind it one of our cats loves. About five or six inches below the top of the window.

We used long 1x12's, put a 2x4 about 3 inches off the front edge where the Pops would be displayed, so the 6 inches or so behind the 2x4 is for where the Goblin paces and chatters at the birds and lizards she now has a better view of.

She's a tree cat. The other three are cave cats, hiding in any little nooks and crannies they can waiting to pounce on bits of meat, fish, or cheese whenever they might come by.

We made a shelf from a 8 ft. 1x12 plank. It is 6 ft off the floor in front of a large window with prime cat viewing opportunities.
About 3 inches from the front edge of the shelf we have an 8 ft 2x4 screwed into the top if the shelf to make a rail running lengthwise down the middle of the shelf, leaving 6 inches of shelf behind the 2x4 for the cat to use for prowling. The Pops are in front, their stands tacked down so if she decides to use the 2x4, she won't knock them off.

Haele.

How is this better?

It is like a complicated math problem. I just glaze over about 1/2 though. So funny.

I know you mean well. Its just me, I'm not able to track the narrative math problem.

Maybe tomorrow my brain cells will have regenerated.
