What are your simple pleasures?

I've been working 6 days a week recently because we are short-handed. I have Sundays off right now. On my day off I enjoy simply sitting on the patio and drinking a six pack. That's all I really want to do.

A friend was sitting with me a few weeks back on the patio on my day off. The weather was sunny and mild. We've got several trees in our yard and it stays shady this time of year. We were silent for while, just observing the moment. Then my friend commented, "This is like heaven." I think so, too.

Oddly, I never saw those get much action, even from all the monarchs I had in my yard. Next year I will have a "swamp milkweed" blooming which monarchs supposedly prefer.

I have a modest apartment in a big old house that was built as a summer cottage for a wealthy family. The lawn is about twenty feet higher than the water. All good unless it floods. There are many locust trees and there are many pleasure boaters and a cruise boat on warm days and evenings. And many salmon fishermen during season. Not much commercial traffic other than an occasional tug. Platoons of Canada geese. Resident bald eagles and osprey. I am at ground level, with big picture windows. Every day I am grateful to craigslist for this place. It's the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.

I seem to be running here and there at all times, often without grabbing a bite to eat or drink of water - so when I get a chance to plop down and have a hot cup of coffee or a nice glass of wine sitting not standing or on the go, that is more than a simple pleasure it is bliss.

Nah, just kidding.

We have similar plan to your's, Tobin S. We make up a picnic basket of food and liquid refreshments and walk down to the Delaware River to sit on the deck and observe the beauty. There are many different birds including bald eagles and red-tailed hawks as well as egrets. There are lots of deer and ground critters. We have bears, as well, though they tend to keep to themselves.

Sometimes we sit in silence for hours and other times we'll talk or listen to music. It's quite simple and amazingly beautiful.

Here's a funny story about the bears. Recently, I was mowing the lawn and there were several deposits of deer droppings which we see all the time. However, there was another sample that was obviously from a bear. This evidence disproves the adage: The bear does not shit in the woods, he shits on my front lawn!

Humanity has tried to overcome and conquer nature not fully realizing that to do so makes us at war with ourselves. For we are just as much a part of nature as the trees and the deer and the insects.

To appreciate nature and to work in harmony with it is to appreciate ourselves and be peaceful.

I've been lurking a lot - especially during Obama's time because, gosh, not a lot to get pissy about while he was in charge (except for the GOP obstructionism and racism and etc...).

But when Donald got fake elected, my rage returned and I needed DU to stay calm

I don't post much, but I do come here every day to check the headlines and get the real fake news so I can help destroy American and wage war on Christmas.

How have you been?!

I walk every day all year round. I have often told people that for the 26 years walking at this park, I always see something new that I've never seen before. The other day I saw a mink. I knew they were at the park, but had never seen one in person. I remember the exact day years ago when I saw my first bald eagle high in a tree by the lake. I've seen a doe nursing her baby. I try to go off the beaten paths at the park where I don't have to listen to people talking loud. Sometimes I find a bench high on a hill overlooking the lake and have my morning coffee and bagel.

I love weather - all kinds of weather. I love dramatic weather too. I love the four seasons.

My other simple pleasures are reading, talking with friends and watching my toddler granddaughter learn about the world around her. I love having her sit next to me while I read her a book before bedtime.

watching some kind of show with visually interesting subjects, but not requiring concentration; a good stiff drink; my cat nearby; my lady friend sleeping after a nice day; forgetting about that ugliness of politics for moment; and planning on going hiking tomorrow if I please. All like tonight.

I sure like the sound of living near big water with a nice porch, and friends who enjoy silence and introspection.

42. For the past two months, my simple pleasure
Thu Oct 4, 2018, 02:42 AM
Oct 2018

has been taking care of my 8-month old great-grandson three mornings a week while his Daddy works full-time and Mommy (my granddaughter) works part time. He is a lovely baby, pleasant temperment and just generally a pleasure to play with. We sing to each other (he is so tolerant of my total lack of ability), we play finger counting games, I read to him, we watch black & white movies together. I think he is attracted by the contrasting black and white images because he surely doesn't know what a movie is. I give him his morning bottle, feed him his oatmeal and/or strained fruit and rub his back when he goes down for a nap. Then the Mommy comes home and I go back to my home, satisfied that I gave him lots of love and attention.
