The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSome of the MediFast meals are disgusting.
Namely cream of tomato soup, chili, and peach oatmeal. They are inedible, they're so bad.
I just started MediFast on Sunday, and I am struggling mightily already. I gave in to the lure of a burrito yesterday. While I didn't exactly beat myself up, I was quite disappointed with myself.
Have you ever done MediFast? What meals did you like? What meals did you find disgusting?

(12,132 posts)(how appropriate those initials? lol) and at that time I said I could see it coming as my wife has been talking to her friend about it a lot.
Well, she placed her order on Monday.
I fear for my future gastronomical adventures.
She let me taste some honey mustard pretzels. Utterly despicable to call it food, much less "snack" food. I spit it out.
So far that is the only MF thing I have tasted. I think we just spent 200 bucks for a couple boxes of land-fill - I just don't see how she will stick to this.
I liked the rice pot post from earlier this week a lot more.

I wish your wife well. And I wish you well, too.

(4,616 posts)but I have a question. Do you get to pick your foods or is it a pre-packaged type deal?
I have been making different eating choices lately. I think about what I am putting in my body and what it will do for me. I am not eating any meat and eating a ton of fresh fruits and veggies. No sodas, but I am using crystal light in water and drinking a lot of teas.
The biggest criteria for me is that what I eat taste good, so I am not sure I would do well with the medifast type plan.

The things that I do find somewhat palatable all taste funny.
It's not really meals. Everything comes in powder form and is mixed with water (well, everything but the bars). One pack of powder, no matter what it is, constitutes a "meal." That's all you have. You have five of these each day and one "lean & green" meal of a lean protein and certain types of veggies. On these things it's very restrictive.
Edit: suninvited, it sounds like you are making some really good choices.

(78,249 posts)If not, why are you eating powdered food*?!
I know, I know, but there must be a better way!

(21,484 posts)If that sounds like a cop-out, so be it. It's just a fact. In this program I don't have to make any decision beyond which packet to reach for. My doc is behind me and monitoring me.
It sucks but I refuse to carry 140 extra pounds to my 50th birthday. I can't lose it all in eight months, but I can damn sure lose a lot.

(12,132 posts)not only do I lack discipline, I simply have no idea what to eat instead. I LOVE the concept of the MF system giving me the right food and all I have to do is eat it at the right time.
I have a year and a half to my 50th - I'm gonna try but I don't think I'm gonna like it. lol
Good luck to you as well, BV!

Good luck!

(32,084 posts)It's the all-liquid one. The first week was rough, but I did it during a hot spring/summer, so it wasn't as bad as it could be. In fact, I kind of hated when it ended. We were able to doctor our shakes with diet sodas and extracts. I also blended them with ice cubes to make "milk shakes". They had a chicken soup that was actually pretty good with garam masala or other spices added to it. Can you do any doctoring with herbs and spices to make these things edible? Perhaps a few dashes of hot sauce to the chili or tomato soup might make it somewhat more edible? Or, chili powder, onion orpgarlic powder or the like? Maybe some cinnamon would help the oatmeal.
