Perhaps a bit of comfort in uncertain times: "The Agnostic's Prayer"

The Agnostic's Prayer

(Roger Zelazny, "Creatures of Light and Darkness," © 1969)

Insofar as I may be heard by anything, which may or may not care what I say, I ask, if it matters, that you be forgiven for anything you may have done or failed to do which requires forgiveness.

Conversely, if not forgiveness but something else may be required to insure any possible benefit for which you may be eligible after the destruction of your body, I ask that this, whatever it may be, be granted or withheld, as the case may be, in such a manner as to insure your receiving said benefit.

I ask this in my capacity as your elected intermediary between yourself and that which may not be yourself, but which may have an interest in the matter of your receiving as much as it is possible for you to receive of this thing, and which may in some way be influenced by this ceremony.

Amen.

Roger Zelazny was an absolute genius!

Their articles of faith:
1. The existence of a Supreme Being is unknown and unknowable.
2. If there is a Supreme Being, then that being appears to act as if apathetic to events in our universe.
3. We are apathetic to the existence or nonexistence of a Supreme Being.

Agnostic from a - gnosis meaning without knowledge.
Atheism from a - theism meaning without theism(god belief)

So it's perfectly possible to be an agnostic atheist or indeed an agnostic theist.

In retrospect, it was only the fear of the "atheist" label that made me do such a silly thing. Not the literal meaning of the word atheist, but the connotation it currently carries in society.

"Hard-core agnostic" sounds like a size "extra-medium" t-shirt. Not enough there to be a full meaningless word-salad, but silly none the less.

In reality, it is the gateway drug to accepting an emerging skeptic's intuition regarding theism, which is a step in the right direction.
