Every time I was at a stop light next to some guy in an overblown muscle car he wanted to race me.
So I would rev the engine and so would he the light would turn green and off he shot like a rocket in a cloud of dust as I meekly drove on laughing.

(4,520 posts)1974 Ford Custom. I bought it at auction in 76 for $500 and drove it back to OK. The only alterations were they spray painted over the insignias and removed the lights. It had a 4 barrel carb, the speedometer went to 180. The backseat had no handles for doors and the widows didn't roll down, it had a mesh grill welded between the front and back and there was a rack for holding a shotgun between the 2 front seats. I didn't have a radio or AC either. Not exactly the party barge LOL
Sure, I had to find out how fast it would go. I had just backed off from 135 when the OK highway patrol clocked me. His first words were not "do you know how fast you were going" they were - "where did you get the car" He caught me at 104 in a 55 zone and fined me for reckless driving too. In 1978 that cost me $360.
I drove that car 4 years before the transmission fell out on the turnpike. It cost me more to get it off the highway than I paid for it. Best damn car I ever owned.
