Watched the match at a bar at Place de la Nation, drinking single malt and hanging on every minute.

I have never been interested in sport as a spectator, but being in England and France during the World Cup, and now living in France, I'm getting drawn in.

When I was a student in Paris. The only thing I missed about the States was sports. Then the World Cup (1982) happened. Look up the France/Germany semifinal. That’s a great conversation to have with an old-timer at a bar in Nation. Anyway, I’ve been fiers d’etre bleu ever since. The French play a great game of soccer. Three trips to the WC finals in the last 20 years is all the proof you need.

...his tenure has run its course. I think he lost the locker room a while ago. Once that happens, there is no going back.
