What's your favorite spot on earth...?

...mine is the Branford, CT Supply Pond, a park just north of the town with a small lake. A wooded oasis in the midst of modern sprawl. I've loved it since I was a little kid. How about you folks...?

It's a 12th century building whose walls are almost entirely stained glass. I was there years ago and am looking forward to another trip!

when a concert was going on. We stayed very close to l'ile de la Cite. I can't remember if we didn't know about it or just couldn't find it. Looks beautiful.

specifically the Mile Rock trail and overlook, walking through the cypresss trees, Golden Gate Bridge to your east, Marin Headlands to the north, and choppy, churning Pacific Ocean everywhere else you look.

I grew up in the foothills and skied and summered in the mountain lakes. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and I have traveled quite a bit.

My late, beloved husband (Happy Birthday, baby--I'll love you forever) and I would spend hours just down the hill from that overlook watching Humpback whale mothers and babies playing in sheltered Maalaea Bay. In the second picture you can see mama teaching baby how to breach. Coming from Michigan in February to spend two weeks in paradise was heaven on earth.

And not the tourist spots. Best time I’ve ever had was in Lihue and the state parks around there. I liked it so much I vacationed there three times in a single year. It’s beautiful and I simply feel at home there.

I probably won’t ever get back there since my wife has become excited about exploring Florida and Texas.

From here I can go anywhere in the world and besides, when I have been other places I always wish I was back home after a short time. For me, there's no place like home.
It's nice that we're all not alike.

Seriously. Those waterfalls are in the Aberdares National Park in Kenya. Not far from the top of the falls stand two cosy stone cottages that you can rent. Mountain elephants stroll by, and when the mist rolls in (the park gate is at 3000m so it's always chilly) you can light a fire in the huge fireplace. It's a simple magical world up there.

I've been there alone and with friends. It's a tough climb up and the peak is small and flat, but I've seen bear, deer, hare and lynx at the top. And every time I sat on that summit and an animal came by it was a strangely calming experience, with neither human nor animal scared of the other. Each time it was a shared experience. They'd just look around, glance at me and then just amble on. Magical. Oh, and the views can't be beat.

The desert, the woods, the beach at night. Stuff like that.

Other than that, last night putting my two-year-old nephew to sleep was pretty great.
