If you party and overdo it, you have a few days to get back before the extra weight sticks. Weigh yourself every day and keep records of what you eat. I do it in excel. It makes it easy to see what causes weight gain. For me, I just can't drink alcohol any more if I want to lose, so I try to limit it to one beer a week.
