(25,558 posts)The one take away from this: You need to dial all the way to the bar. Other than that, the letters and numbers were easy to figure out.
I grew up with rotary phones, but I think most people who didn't could figure it out with much less instruction. (Probably the instructions that came with the phonebook)

(38,328 posts)Our town had five digit phone numbers and, except for the rich kids, party lines.
Along with dialing, we were taught party line etiquette.
Classrooms also had giant model clocks with hands that could be set to any time, and in upper grade math classes, giant slide rules.
