That word is "promotion".
I don't want it. I'm happier being good at what I do now.
I thought I had mastered the art of being good enough to be valuable without making myself a target for "more responsibility" (and the headache that goes with it).
Guess not.

(20,587 posts)that is what my ex-neighbor did. He was WA State Patrol and they wanted to promote him. He said no - the higher a person goes, the more political the job. He retired happy and people thought highly of him.
My best friend also does not want a promotion. Her office has lots of back stabbing but she can easily avoid it in her current position. A promotion would put her in the worst of it so she said no too.

I'm happy enough where I am. It pays the bills and leaves me fulfilled without bringing it home with me.
