I left my phone in my car when I went to a meeting last night and that was a huge mistake! It's habit since we're asked to turn off cell phones during meetings and it's embarrassing if someone's goes off. I just wasn't thinking, but when I got back to my car I had a warning that it was no longer charging since the temperature got just too low - and I'm fortunate that was all that happened. As it was, it was so cold that I didn't want to go outside at all... Tonight, my phone said it's a balmy minus 2.

continues to be a yearly trend. I was actually shocked to see the ice and frost on the inside of homes and doors. It made me feel like that movie "The Day After Tomorrow" could actually become reality one day. My apartment is terribly insulated - I can feel the cold and wind through my old windows even when it is in the the high 20's. If the temp were to drop as low as it did in the midwest, I have no doubt that my apartment would become an ice locker.

This is serious stuff, yet our government refuses to acknowledge that it is happening. Anyway, stay warm Rhiannon! Stay inside! It's dangerous out there!

to never leave anything with batteries out in the cold in my vehicle because extreme cold shortens battery life. So, I got in the habit of bringing all my inspection lights and electronics into my room at night. If alkaline batteries, for example, are near the end of their useful life, they will freeze and then start leaking. I lost some good devices to that corrosion that couldn't be repaired.

Most any batteries that are low on charge are highly vulnerable to freeze damage. The really bad part is that batteries in many devices these days can't even be replaced, or certainly not by consumers.

Thanks for sharing and stay warm!....... ..........

pictures of amazing ice images on my windows when it got cold like that back in the early-mid 80s. They were amazing ice forms on glass and I just had to take pictures. But I have some really interesting pictures form my time in the mountains where -20F was common in the winter, sometimes for weeks. You find out where all the leaks in your house are because they clog up with frost-ferns growing out of them.

Our people, in the US, have become so detached from nature that when a natural event comes up and shows us who's boss they freak out because they didn't know this could happen or some stupid shit.. Be prepared. I live where I do because it's a place where mother natures rules all activity on a daily basis, helps to know one's actual place on the planet.
