(17,235 posts)I live in an area where people will nearly run over birds attempting to cross the road. Jerks.

(2,232 posts)While out riding my motorcycle one day, I came upon a mother turkey with several chicks about to cross the road. She turned them back until I passed. I then stopped and watched her usher the chicks across.

(4,889 posts)When they were chicks we raised them with chicken chicks because they would forget to pull their heads out the waterer and drown if not for the pushy chickens.

(22,692 posts)I like watching them and the harems slowly making their way, through the field into the woods, in their little family units. They seem so calm and oblivious.

(1,990 posts)We often see Canada geese around here, and a few times I have seen them walk across a highway, blocking traffic. But they always do it single file, with a couple of yards in between them, and always walking slowly.
There is the famous children's book Make Way for Ducklings, where a momma duck blocks traffic, assisted by a policeman, while the ducklings walk across the road, on their way to the pond in the Public Garden. The book is based on an actual incident, and in the Public Garden there are statues of the duck and ducklings.
