It occurs to me that scaring a Kola might leave evidence behind - literally scaring to poop out of it.

at least a dozen very venomous species of terrestrial snakes, and even the kangaroos can kill you.

The last thing you should try to do with a wild animal is try to pick it up. You could lose your face for starters.
