we were on vacation in the 50's...Japan was so beautiful. For some reason, my mother didn't get us to learn Japanese. I wish she had! I still have 3 thick .78 records with the national anthem, chinano yoru and the like. For years I begged my mother to adopt a Japanese sister for me, but she never knew when she might find herself pregnant again! When we moved back to the States, she maintained a circle of Japanese friends. Then we moved to Hawaii, so it was like all my growing up had Japanese connections! I still have my kimono, obi, geta and tabi, zori. Mother made zabuton, but they're gone and the kakemona have rotted. Still have the memories! ❤
