was called Red Dog. I hated the taste of beer, so I would only drink mixed drinks. Finally, a friend and I decided we were going to just force ourselves to drink beer. He bought the sixer of Red Dog and we finished them off. That was about 22 years ago, and I've been drinking beer ever since. I've actually expanded my tastes, and will drink just about any beer put in front of me.

Actually, one of my favorite beers is an Aldi brand called Imperium.

Together with smoking a nasty cigarette. Unbeknownst to me, they were doing aversion therapy on me. It worked. I was SO sick. Have never smoked anything, and beer ... as an adult, once in a great while. And it has to be good beer.

Now before anyone gets their panties in a knot, this was 1959, rural area. Parenting standards were very different. My aunt and uncle are good people (yes still living) They raised 6 kids of their own, all successful and good adults. Plus their home was always open to kids having trouble in their own families. A lot of love - unconditional as well as tough - but they never gave up on any kid. FYI - No spanking, ever. They felt physical punishment was counterproductive. Lots of consequences for undesirable behavior, though. Smart, wonderful people. I'm so grateful they were there for me when I needed space from my siblings and parents.

That's what my dad drank.

My first full beer was a liter of lager in Switzerland when I was 14. I don't remember the brand.

But as I got older, I thought both Coors and Olympia tasted better than the others.
