(1,990 posts)The New England Aquarium in Boston has some small penquins living in a pool around the bottom of the central main tank, and people can look down at them swimming around and playing. But they stink! An indoor room is maybe not the greatest place for penguin poop.

(12,153 posts)with the animals, including the penguins when it's her turn. I asked her if the Doorly Zoo penguins stink.
She replied:
No, they don't. Henry Doorly has an exceptionally clean penguin exhibit. Every day the keepers melt the snow and scrub the entire exhibit for 2 hours. Then after cleaning and rinsing, they turn on the snow, so the penguins have fresh snow every day. It's actually ice flakes, so they shovel twice a day to spread the snow. They also each dive twice a week to scrub the algae and make it look extra clean as well as doing back washing once a week, water Chems weekly, and stabilizing water pH weekly.
