The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust got a pitch on my email for something call CBD oil for chronic pain.
I didn't read the entire pitch but it seems to have some relationship with cannabis.
Can anybody explain to me what this stuff is? My arthritic back could certainly use some relief (besides exercises which I do daily).

(182,904 posts)It has the attributes of weed without the THC so there's no high.
She takes a couple of drops under her tongue and it's done wonders for her. I've taken it for stress (self induced - overthinking stuff) and it really works.
Give it a shot.

I predict that use of these cannabidoils will skyrocket over time, if they haven't already.

(182,904 posts)We get it a locally owned drug store. 300 mg but you can get higher doses if needed.

BTW, not all CBD oils are the same so go to a good health food store and get advice from the clerk. Potancys differ, and mail order CBD oil may not be strong or quality depending on the source.
I wouldn't buy anything from an unsolicited email vendor.

(12,417 posts)Not to be confused with THC substances that come from hemps stonier relatives.
Do the research, CBD has been used for multiple aliments successfully. The promises of future uses are inevitable.
Personally, I have been using a water soluble CBD product for almost a year. The pains of aging that were starting to become part of my reality are gone. I sleep sounder, am more agile, and find myself with far less anxiety.
I have also found a CBD product that is for my dogs, two sibling labs nearing 10 years old. The female was starting to show signs of stiffness; slow on the rise and limping a bit. The male, on the other hand, had never stopped being a teenager of sorts. He was somewhat hyper. I started them at the same time as I did for myself. They both showed signs of improvement. She is now back to active and limber and he, surprisingly, has mellowed out.
I know numerous other people with similar stories. The uses of CBD oils will become more mainstream and offer a cheap, organic, effective treatment for most all that ails you.

(63,912 posts)The pharmacy did not have it; my health food store did. So I'll be getting CBD oil from there!
thanks for your input.

(60,010 posts)I know someone who uses it that way.
vaping has the advantage of no smell, and it is hard to tell what is in the cartridge, since nicotine vaping is so popular.

(115,869 posts)It's supposed to be calming (without the THC) and help with arthritic discomfort. I can't tell yet if it's helping (because they're cats), but they don't seem to be arguing as much as usual and the fifteen-year-old is jumping onto the counter without difficulty. Maybe I'll get some for myself.

(86,802 posts)the opportunity, as a practicing herbal/natural remedy maker and user for over 35 years, to help with an entire crop of CBD grade hemp. I also had access to enough product to make a bunch of CBD products for testing. I haven't ad enough test participants to come up with a study but I have had no negative reports from any of my participants. I am finding many ways to apply CBDs, internally and topical and I have found numerous benefits beyond what the grower had found. The grower is well educated in these things and decided to get involved with our state's pilot program.
I like the hemp since there's little THC (<3%) so you don't get the euphoric aspects but the other properties are still present from anti-inflamatory to calmative. Some of the workers tried smoking the hemp to see if it did anything without getting buzzed. I observed them for a few ours afterward and noticed that they were able to face the challenges of their tasks with a calmer sense of reason and were far more contemplative and open to a broader set of options. It was interesting because at least one of them has ADD.
If you use them, or anyone who does, could end up testing positive in drug testing. Unlike many other herbal/natural remedies used for pain, CBDs can be used over long periods because they aren't toxic like comfrey or arnica which can damage your hepatic system if used for more than a week or two.
I really hope CBD medicines become widely used and accepted, they are so much healthier an option than chemical substitutes. It seems that the medical industrial complex has been trying to take the natural out of nature so they can own us financially and make us dependent on their chemicals.

(86,802 posts)And will be helping advise on a hemp farm this summer.
CBDs are great for a number of ailments, I use them for pain as well. You can use it as a topical application or a few drop in your coffee or however you chose to use it. Hemp and marijuana are pretty much the same plant (as far as medicinal properties go) with the difference being the THC element's presence, it looks and smells the same, handles about the same. This is what I learned at the farm last year.
I have noticed that drinking a juice of the plant gives a sort of stamina without fatigue afterward too. This one plant alone could upstage the big pharma death grip as long as we don't let them gain total control over it like tobacco or hops or poppies.

(182,904 posts)not to kill it. Think of the comparison between microbrews and alternate energy. A-B Miller and Coors realizes they are the BEER BUSINESS not just their product line and started buying up micros, letting them continue, and make money off it. Energy on the other hand is literally fighting the elements with legislation and in the courts when they could have been making money off it.
