we called them that too (grew up in Flushing, NY)

also we called those other things piggy noses and we would stick them on our nose.

North bay, CA. Everything is growing and blooming abundantly, so much rain and mild temps.

They are absolutely horrible this year. I have raked twice already and the tree is still covered. Not to mention my neighbor has an even bigger tree hanging over the property.

There is a deep drift of them on the sidewalk out front, seemingly more than in past years. I keep sweeping them over the curb for the street sweeper to get (bending down to bag them kills my knees). They have also brought the giant black wood roaches. Ugh. At least the cats are happy when one makes it into the house.

When we were kids we'd stick them on our noses and pretend they were rhino horns or some such thing.

Yard and garden beds full of baby maple trees. Mowing takes care of those in the lawn - but the flower beds ... human manual labor required. Cute little trees, though. I just don't need 100's of them.
