(6,110 posts)It happened fast, like during just 2-3 months time. She just turned 15 and is healthy except no vision or hearing. She bumps into walls & furniture at home. Before age 14 she had a loud bark for a dog weighing only 10 lbs. Now she never barks.
So long she is eating good and pooping good, and shows no signs of pain i will not euthanize her.
What's your sweet baby's name?

(6,110 posts)She could stand up on hind legs for ever and rotate when I dangled a treat above her. So I named her ballerina

(6,110 posts)Thank you for the suggestion. It arrives on July 1st. Hoping it will fit and help her avoid bumping into walls.

Laffy Kat
(16,383 posts)One lived to 16 and the other is going strong at 11. Both of mine were so easy to train that the deafness has been a non-issue. I also rescued a hearing puppy last year and I forgot how much they bark! OMG, I love her, but I don't think I'll ever get another hearing dog because they are waaay too noisy
I have known rescuers with blind & deaf dogs and they were the sweetest pets. I don't think I'd do it unless I could make sure someone was with them all of the time. They are so dependent on their guardian and super loving. They rarely leave your side and will lean on you the entire time so they know when you leave them.
