I am heartbroken. Dr. John has died.

He was just always there. Mac Rebenack, the doctor, one of the few white men who could session with every jazz, soul, R&B, bounce, every player in the city. He was funny and profane and gave not a single fuck. And he loved New Orleans like you love blood. And it loved him back.

And if you want to know what a real New Orleans accent is like, well, he’s your man. I can’t believe he’s silent. 💔
