She said im Invited to her 70th birthday party. I know her, weve talked, and worked on the same campus, but I dont consider a close friend, more of acquaintance. Dont exactly know what to give her.......may-be an excuse to not attend.

(6,622 posts)Do you know of a good charity that she (and you) would both value? You could make a donation in her honor - give her a nice card describing the gift.

(16,388 posts)You can make a donation in her name to something general like the Red Cross or Physicians without Borders. The organization will send her an acknowledgement and a thank you. They usually don't mention the amount donated, so even a $10 donation is fine. But, look, if she didn't ask for gifts, a card is also perfect. Go and have fun.

(23,768 posts)you've covered yourself. You do not arrive empty handed and will feel no guilt. Let the ones who are truly her friends shower her with gifts. Just go and enjoy yourself.
Actually I thought the Bloody Mary gift basket was ideal.

(21,646 posts)person inviting you is not paying . Keep the card with the gift card open when you find out the deets you can decide to keep it in there or take it out depending on how you feel about that
For me , if someone sez no gifts , I give a nice card but comply with thier wishes
