So, after 36 hours of screwing around with IKEA manuals, holy shit I have a grown-up dining room!
That's the whole thing.
That's the sort of "breakfast nook" behind the table. (Yes, I know I need to season the cast iron. 2 hands and 24 hours in a day, people.)
You can see at least part of my dog as he snuffles around the new furniture
And there's the table from a different angle.
EDIT: one more: the table and the French windows, or as they call them here "windows":

(4,341 posts)One of my hobbies is carpentry, so anything wood I love...that is a great looking table. I guess it opens, widens?

(11,916 posts)I've never bought anything from Ikea but have been thinking of getting some book shelves. I saw a way to trim them out where they look like built-ins. Not sure when that idea will get off the ground. Like you said, only 24 hrs in a day and 2 hands
Congrats on your new, beautiful dining room!

(32,006 posts)I love the table! and the black accents with the chairs and the breakfast nook.
After 33 years of marriage I am still using hand-me-down dining room furniture from my husband's aunt.
We couldn't move our furniture here so we had to do the IKEA thing. Somehow our marriage survived the trip.

(32,645 posts)Are these cast-iron pans for decoration, or do you plan to actually use them? I love the breakfast table with the handy shelves underneath!

(56,582 posts)I'm a southerner and my wife is Indian-American (dot, not feather) so we both grew up with cast iron as what you cook with.
''dot, not feather"...🤣🤣
Looks really nice. When are you having us over?

Lol

(56,582 posts)Not only is it tiny, it also has our washing machine in it. We're in Paris. This is apparently normal.
We did a huge purge of kitchen items before we moved, so right now that is our entire pot and pan set. The tiny tiny tiny kitchen also has no pantry, so if we want to keep shelf foods we have to keep them in the cabinets. Which means the cookware needs to be out here.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)to know about those kitchens! Wonder why. Big on going to market and buying all fresh each day? So no need for much storage
?
Laundry. Remember being in Italy with a bunch of dirty clothes and not a single laundromat. People hang clothes outside...which you almost never see here...wish we'd get back to that!! We finally had our hotel send our clothes out and they didn't come back in time. We we're literally walking toward the cab to leave and the porter cane running up with a bunch of wet clothes.
All that said...how lucky are you to be in Paris!!! Are u from US?

Have you made the leap permanently or are you planning on going back?
We moved to France this past September. Love it.
And we're in Aix-en-Provence.
Check out Democrats Abroad - I think the Paris chapter is very active.

(56,582 posts)Kind of why I'm shutting up about the primaries for a bit.
We're on the 4th (European) floor. They had to deliver our bed with a cherry picker through the windows.

(17,340 posts)Are you a now permanent in France?
We're rdc, and we only had a few things delivered so it's simple.
That dining table looks amazing.

(22,537 posts)quiet home one night. Screaming. Cursing. The thuds of objects being thrown. Unrelenting pandemonium. When it seemed the fracas would never end, the homeowner finally called the police to intervene. The police could hear the disturbing activity upon arrival. When questioned as to what was going on that could cause such neighborhood concern, the culprit explained that he was just trying to assemble a piece of furniture from ikea!
