(100,102 posts)I've been to the LA Greek many times, never been to the Berkeley one. I did see Radiohead at the LA Greek shortly after Hail To The Thief was released. Man that was a good album.
I've already been to the Greek once this year, and I might be going back at least 4 times (Raconteurs, King Gizzard, King Crimson, and Bastille). They have a pretty awesome schedule this year.

(27,172 posts)I absolutely detest his music, sorry to say.
When he only drums and produces, I do like his work, though.
The work he did with Howard Jones was good, as well as the one-hit-wonder Frida: I Know There's Something Going On
But I would cheerfully beat him bloody for "Susussdio" and any number of his other hits.

(33,643 posts)Duke, Abacab, Genesis in particular. Also 3 Sides Live was an awesome live set.
I saw 'em on Genesis (Mama) Tour in 1983 I think it was, Oakland Arena. Great show.
Also saw him solo on the tour for the album w/Sussudio. It was a decent show ... Follow You Follow Me was the highlight for me. He didn't play much Genesis.
Goodheart
(5,340 posts)Didn't like his stuff going in, liked it even less after he played it. Some girl sitting behind me sang EVERY LAST WORD OF EVERY SONG he played. Thankfully, he sort of cheated the audience by performing for only about 50 minutes.
Coldplay played for almost 3 hours. Talk about getting your money's worth!
Coventina
(27,172 posts)That was pretty sweet! Even though it was outdoors, in July, in Phoenix!!!!
The worst band I ever saw was Nine Inch Nails opening for Jesus and Mary Chain.
Totally boring, no stage presence whatsoever, and I hated their music. (Still do).
Worst experience was being barfed on by the girl behind me just before Depeche Mode took the stage!
Or the guy behind me that peed on me during a festival-style concert between acts. I can't remember between which acts that happened, though.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)They rocked A Forest so FCUKING HARD they blew a speaker somewhere that was totally buzzing the last minute or so ... it added to the effect.
Saw them every tour from HOTD to Wish, 2x on Disintegration.
Did you watch the 30th anniversary show in Sydney last month? It's on YT, and it's AWESOME. Esp. if you're familiar w/the B-Sides from that era like I am, they played a bunch of em before starting the album proper.
Funnily enough, I blew one of my PC speakers watching it lol ...
I saw NiN on Downward Spiral tour, and they ROCKED ASS ...
Also saw Depeche in 1997, pretty good show, but not a favorite live act of mine. Too much keyboards. I love Martin Gore though.
Coventina
(27,172 posts)I also saw them on every tour you did, except HOTD (I don't think they came to PHX for that one).
I have not seen the 30th anniv. yet. I think it's coming to theatres as a special screening and me & my gang were talking about going to see it then.
During the Disintegration tour, (again outdoors, in summer, in PHX) one of the speakers caught fire during "Hot Hot Hot"!!!!
Robert Smith did a double take when he saw it being lowered toward the stage, still burning!! (It was quickly extinguished once within reach).
My second NiN experience was no better than the first. They played one song, then stomped off stage during Lolapolooza. (Again, in summer, outdoors, in Phx. I guess Trent doesn't have the endurance of Robert Smith!)
Never could stomach NiN after that.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)Dunno if you've heard the b-sides from Lullaby, Lovesong, and Fascination, but they play like 4 of 'em ... Babble in particular absolutely kicks ass in that show. Refreshing your memory (or checking 'em out for the first time) might enhance your enjoyment of the video.
I love the show overall but on a couple songs, Reeves Gabrel's guitar tone is 'off', too distorted, esp. on Homesick. That main guitar figure is supposed to be a relatively clean (but slightly flanged) sound, but Reeves has full-on distortion and it doesn't cut through and drive the song like it should, i.e. how it is on the CD (you can tell how much of a Cure nerd I am) ... also ... Jason Cooper, while he's gotten better ... is still no Boris. But he does a very passable job.
I've not heard Robert sound as good in a WHILE, and I've watched lots of live Cure vids over the years on tours I didn't actually see. And Simon is his usual badass self.
I can see how you'd be turned off to NiN. I saw 'em indoors at the Warfield in SF, about a 3k person venue iirc. It was phenomenal.
Coventina
(27,172 posts)I have the Cure's B-side collection, so I'll be sure to give all those tracks another listen!
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)The fact that they shocked me by coming out and OPEN it with a freaking incendiary version of Shake Dog Shake is the highlight for me (The Top is way underappreciated, IMHO), but all 4 songs are done up pretty great. And Trent Reznor's intro (OOPS!) of the band is pretty awesome and worth hearing.
Coventina
(27,172 posts)mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)Yeah, I love the mix of their styles on The Top ... some classic gloom like Shake Dog Shake, The Wailing Wall, Empty World, and The Top ... with some of Bob's best weirdo pop songs like Birdmad Girl, bananafishbones, Dressing Up, and of course The Caterpillar ... it's kinda like Kiss Me x 3 ... but two albums earlier, shorter, and definitely weirder.
Edit: meant to say, if you have the B-Sides collection (the Dots one), they play all 4 Disintegration b-sides on that collection ... Fear of Ghosts, 2 Late, Babble, and Out of Mind ... in the Sydney show. And a couple unreleased instrumentals, both of which are REALLY good ... One of the 2, called No Heart ... sounds like it could've been the last 4 instrumental minutes of an extended 'One More Time' from KMKMKM, where they kick the song up a notch for the latter 1/2.

We were in the VERY last group they let in, showed up literally at the last possible minute before they put up rope behind us and said 'that's it, we're at capacity!'.
Good show, esp. for free.
Last paid show was Jason Isbell at Crescent Ballroom in 2012 ... or maybe it was Rush at the arena where the Suns play ... forget what year that was, but was around that time.
Best Show I cannot possibly name, I've been to way too many.
Jason Isbell was way up there cause I was 5 feet from him the whole time, for a $22 ticket. Now he's playing 10K-size arenas.
The Cure Disintegration shows were amazing, as were the 4 U2 Joshua Tree shows I went to in 1987.
Pink Floyd in 1986, DSoT tour, I was so freaking excited for that, never thought they'd tour again after Roger left in 1982, and it didn't disappoint. Roger Waters in 2007 doing Dark Side was amazing.
Page/Plant in 1997 (the Clarksdale tour) was outstanding.
INXS on the Kick tour were totally on fire.
Aerosmith on the Pump tour was killer (a little-known GnR opened for 'em).
Then there's the many Day on the Green's I went to in the 80's and 90's ... including 1991 one with Metallica, Queensrÿche, Faith No More and Soundgarden ...
On Edit: Almost forgot ... Smashing Pumpkins, Siamese Dream Tour, Warfield, SF, 1992. On my birthday, and the show was FREAKING KILLER.
Biggest regrets ... not seeing REM back in the IRS days (did see 'em on Monster tour, but was THIS close to going to the Lifes Rich Pageant show ... but didn't), and not seeing Peter Gabriel back when all his albums were called 'Peter Gabriel'. You could tell from his 'Plays Live' album (plus everyone I knew who'd seen him) that he was AMAZING live in the 80's.

50 Shades Of Blue
(10,043 posts)They were doing a 50th anniversary of the Byrds' Sweethearts of the Rodeo album tour.
Strathmore Music Hall in N. Bethesda, MD.
As a major Byrds fan since 1965 I had seen Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman each perform individually at other venues in the DC area. To see them perform together, doing some of my favorite Byrds songs, was just magical.
As for the best show I've seen, hmmm... I've seen so many it's hard to pick one! The above would rank near the top, though.
This is the first time in a long time I don't have any shows on the horizon.

(22,270 posts)during the Concerts in the Garden summer season. Joint project with the FW Symphony.
Great mix of traditional symphony stuff, themed concerts, special guest acts, a big pre 4th featuring various well loved classical music ending with 1812 Overture where the cannons are supplied by fireworks, and the season ending Family 4th concert with all the usual music, closing with Stars & Stripes Forever - with fireworks at the big ending. (fireworks every concert, with great choreography of the final music. Pink Martini closed with "Brazil" & fireworks.

Best: Tough call, it's either....
1997: Big Day Out in Adelaide which was one of Soundgardens last sets and when the Prodigy were blowing up big time. Also my first show I was allowed to go to on my own and miss a day of school for. Got massively sun burnt too.
2008 Muse, Marlay Park, Dublin primarily because we won a comp to get backstage tickets and meet the band, we also got to stand on side of stage as they walked out and for the first couple of songs. Free booze too.
2009 Flaming Lips, The AB in Brussels, great show all round and come out of it with hurting face muscles from smiling too much.
Next: TBA It's been 7 years since a show and nothing is really planned howeve we just found out kids under 12 get in to Glastonbury for free soo going to register for next year and see if we can snag some tickets before they get too old.

(2,654 posts)this past Saturday, June 29. Awesome concert. Probably the best I've seen. He was very funny, down-to-earth and still a kick-ass musician at his tender age of 76 years.
And the music is just classic. No need for dancers or extreme special effects or sexy costumes. Just Paul and his talented band of musicians and songs we all know the words to.
Next concert... who knows. I'd love to see Lady Gaga again but the ticket prices are astronomical.
Great concerts... U2, Nine Inch Nails, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran (yes, they're great in concert)

But probably one of the many Rush shows or Robert Plant/Plant & Page/John Paul Jones shows or maybe it was Demilich with Blood Incantation and Artificial Brain opening up. Or Ozzy without Iommi or Iommi without Ozzy...
Or Bolt Thrower twice at the same Maryland Death Fest (Pestilence had visa issues and got sent home from the airport the day before the fest started so Bolt Thrower filled in their slot. And then the next year at the next MDF, Pestilence had their visa issues fixed and were able to play so I got to see them anyway.)
