PSA for the ladies: Don't scratch a match on the seat of your bloomers.

The original piece is supposedly from an 1895 issue of New York World, but I haven't been able to locate it.

• Don’t faint on the road.
• Don’t wear a man’s cap.
[...]
• Don’t use bicycle slang. Leave that to the boys.
• Don’t discuss bloomers with every man you know.
• Don’t try to ride in your brother’s clothes “to see how it feels.”

Don’t attempt a “century.”

A "century" = 100 miles. I have no idea what that would have been like on a bike a hundred years ago!

Don’t allow dear little Fido to accompany you

This is extremely good advice. The last time I took dear little Ellie with me on a bike ride, she knocked me off and the fall broke my back.
