Question about friends of friends on Facebook

Appreciate everyone's input on the following ...

RE: Facebook accounts ... do you research your friends other friends?
Example: you're John Doe's friend. Do you look through John's "Friends List" and check out his other friends' pages and/or backgrounds/interests?

If so, why?
If not, why?

Thanks ~
