Which is the most iconic Aretha song?

I am torn between "Think" and "Respect."

Let me explain why I ask. I am having a little celebration and am putting together a play list with some of my favorite songs. Aretha is far and away at the top of my list (yeah, above the Beatles, Springsteen, Clapton, Carole King, and Elton John and others).

My question to you is: if you have to choose between the two Aretha songs above, which would you choose. I say "Respect" and friend says "Think."

Please help me decide by explaining your choice!

2. Think is my all time fave, but I think R E S P E C T is more iconic.

Can't lose with either! Think is my all time favorite dancing song - every time I hear it I can't help but get up and dance about. Haven't listened to it since before my surgery because I can't dance until my neck heals - and that will take another 60 days. Once dr. clears me to move my head around, and it no longer hurts this will be the first song I dance to.

...is my pick. I love how a Black woman sang Otis' "Respect" - and gave it a new meaning. My personal favorite is "Chain of Fools" though... that one always gets me.

Just brings back memories. And Amazing Grace. If you haven't seen the recently released film (long lost footage) of her recording that album (and song) in front of a live audience in a church in 1972, then do so if you're an Aretha fan. It's amazing.

25. Well, gotta say when I hear that song I think of Dianne Warwick...the whole Bachrach thing

that I loved b/c it was reminiscent of how I felt during the Vietnam War..."Walk on By" was another Bachrach, IIRC, and I loved that one...

She is just amazing as well. These women have the most amazing voices. The British Celia Black tried imitating Dionne w/ "Anyone who had a Heart", but was a poor facsimile.

I "discovered" bossa nova the year before it came to the U.S. big time. I had heard it when I was an 18 year old and traveled to Brazil with my mother. I was entranced by the beat and was thrilled when it "made it" in the U.S. Was that Bachrach's doing? I often wondered how it got here from Brazil. I loved it and love it to this day...
