(38,317 posts)He'd been kept outside 24/7 by people who didn't know how to handle him. That's against the law here.
Eventually, after we adopted him, he had to have some broken teeth removed.
My wife and I tend to adopt the difficult dogs at the shelter.
He was in the beginning a very expensive pain in the ass, maybe the worst dog I've ever known, and I've known some bad ones.
Now he's a teddy bear, but it was a rough road.
He still digs huge craters in our back yard, usually in newly planted areas of our garden.
These dog stories are heartwarming, but nobody should adopt a difficult dog without knowing what they might be in for.
I grew up with difficult dogs yet I'm still sometimes surprised by them. Usually good surprises, but not always.
