Jessi Combs, the professional race car driver and Mythbusters host, has died at the age of 36. Combs was attempting to break her own land speed record in a jet-powered vehicle when her car crashed in Oregon's Alvord Desert.
Combs was often referred to as the "fastest woman on four wheels," and her previous 4-wheel land speed record, set in 2013, was 398 miles per hour.
Combs had been excited about the possibility of breaking her record, and in an Instagram photo posted on Sunday, she shared a photo of the car she was going to drive during the attempt, a North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger.

In October 2018, Combs did hit a top speed of 483 mph, but she wasn't able to fully complete her run because of mechanical issues.
In addition to being an accomplished race car driver, Combs was also a TV personality, and she hosted a season of Mythbusters while another host was on maternity leave. She also appeared on shows like Xtreme 4×4, Overhaulin, and All Girls Garage. Combs was also a skilled builder and fabricator, and she once designed a line of womens welding gear.
A member of Combs' team confirmed the crash on Wednesday, and tributes have started pouring in for the fallen race car driver.
