which is a relief. Beats the heck out of having to wait days to find out whether a hurricane is going to flatten your house - I continue to hope the best for the folks likely to be affected by that monster.

I just feel so bad for the folks in the Bahamas. That damn storm has just been sitting on them for almost a week. Imagine sitting in a destroyed/damaged home with no electricity while a Cat 4-5 storm swirls around you in the dark. Unbelievable.

(115,270 posts)pointed right at my area was how awful it must be to know for days that there's this huge storm coming and there's nothing you can do about it. At least tornado warnings last for only about an hour and then either there's a tornado or there isn't, and if there isn't, you're back to normal. And even though tornadoes can be horrifically destructive and have been known to flatten a whole small town, usually they are pretty localized and won't disrupt an entire state or states for days. So an hour's worth of stress worrying about a tornado kind of pales compared to what people in the path of the hurricane are going through. Gave me some perspective.
