Ever seen a waterspout? Here's a little one...

Waterspouts are tornadoes over open water. They are scary because they jump all over the place and there is no place to hide.

FIRE ISLAND PINES, NY — A tornado-like waterspout was caught on video Monday afternoon in the waters off Fire Island Pines. Videos of the apparent weather phenomenon were posted to Twitter as a National Weather Service special marine warning was in effect from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to the Fire Island Inlet in New York.

Saw multiple waterspouts on Long Island Sound one summer. They were very small, maybe 50-75 feet - but large enough to be worrisome 6 miles offshore in a 38 footer only capable of 12 knots...
