I teach in central NC
My school cancelled all classes today because of the hurricane
Total expected rain today and tomorrow: about 0.7 inches overnight
No rain yet
Wind for the next 12 hours: 15 - 25mph, maybe gusting to 35, then dying down
No blowing so far
Well, a body just can't be too careful!
I guess I should rush out and stock up on supplies before the weather starts
And don't even get me started on our Snow-zilla Monsters! I think we got a sixteenth of an inch last year. My school cancelled classes for that too
This is so stressful! It's like being in a warzone

(31,320 posts)So far, it's raining a bit. The hourly forecast through the night is wind speeds less than 20 mph. Yawn.
BUT, there has already been a waterspout/tornado in Emerald Isle this morning and Dorian is still threatening landfall on the coast.
But central NC? Somebody wanted a day off at school!
And yes, the cancellations for snow are pretty funny. I lived in Nebraska for 6 years. Grew up in New Jersey. I've seen some snow!
When we first moved to NC in 2000, the occasional snow would be melted by 10 am when we had a storm. The last few years, though, the temps have stayed colder and the snow/ice has stayed on the ground for days at a time. Definitely different.

(8,480 posts)I'm in the foothills. Nothing's been cancelled here, but the wind is actually getting just a bit stirred up and whippy now. We're not predicted to get anything here.
