(115,612 posts)I was 7 when I got glasses - my teacher noticed that I couldn't seem to see the blackboard so she contacted my mom. I wasn't happy about getting glasses but when I actually got them I was totally gobsmacked. I still remember how thrilled I was about being able to see clearly for the first time - I was (and still am) quite nearsighted.

(1,944 posts)I think I was in 3rd grade, but I remember the teacher asking me how to spell the word 'hungry'--amazing that I still remember that part of it!--and I couldn't, even though it was written on the board. And when I came out of the dr office with my new glasses I said 'Wow, everything looks so clean!'. It had all been blurry before that, lol. It's so fantastic that they can give these little ones that benefit so early and don't have to wait like we did.

(1,040 posts)... born nearsighted, with astigmatism and a wandering eye to boot. Wore a patch over one eye for a while, had therapy with an orthopist (eye guy who deals in focal problems). Thankfully my parents were on top of it early, and because I had "reading" therapy early, I learned to read at an early age. I'm 62 now, still wearing glasses and thankful for them. This video is precious.

(20,148 posts)but he didn't get his first glasses until he turned 8.
I got my first pair of glasses for my eighth birthday, and saw birds flying, the tops of trees, even clouds for the first time in my life, says Mothersbaugh. It was amazing! I had never seen chimney smoke or the roof of a house, and I immediately started drawing everything I saw."
