So you thought your day was bad? Here's mine:

Are there days you wish you could have stayed in bed?

I started off with an hour-long argument with my bank that is refusing to allow on-line money transfers to get a couple of bills paid. Apparently they don't allow this for nonprofits, even though my webmaster won't take checks anymore due to mail theft. I wound up spending another hour waiting in lines at banks to do an in-person deposit.

I then came home and spent several hours stressing and making calls to legislators and writers groups in Sacramento over a dreadful bill, AB 5, that while well intentioned will be devastating to freelance journalists and the newspaper industry by a) forcing anyone who writes over 35 articles a year for a publication to become an employee - which means giving up copyright works to resell your works, b) saying if a newspaper wants to hire someone for fewer than 35 articles a year, they must have a business license and meet all kinds of other hurdles. I got interviewed by the Sacramento Bee, since I previously had a class action copyright case that went to the Supreme Court to protect rights of freelancers that are about to be taken away. The Gov has already said he'll sign the bill which is one vote away from becoming law.

So...then I worked on helping a local official who is being bullied and blackmailed, referring the poor woman to a good lawyer. The bright spot was hearing he called the blackmailer (another public official) and ruined his day. Can't say more until I'm authorized to go public. Still very stressful.

I walked outside for fresh air, only to have my assistant rush up and inform me that he found a BULLET slug on the top of my driveway, right in front of the big window on my home office! After my heart stopped pounding I called the cops, who think it's an old round fired who knows when that may have been stuck in a tree and blew down in yesterday's storm. Far-fetched but who knows. They have had troubles with wackos firing bullets in the air here, he says, and I called to report gunshots just a few nights ago. Hubby thought they were fire crackers. Guess not. So now I'm freaked out about even being home in my office.

Other that that it was a really great day....not!

I am ready for a weekend of grapestomping, winetasting and a powwow to work off a whole lot of stress!

Your bank doesn't allow certain on-line payments? What bank? Why?

My advice is to find a different bank.

I pay almost all of my bills on line. I have never had a problem with setting those payments up. I haven't mailed a check in maybe eight years. The bills I don't pay on line are those billed to my credit card.

What I truly adore about on-line bill paying is this: I used to be very bad at writing out the checks needed to pay my bills. I was often late. Not a good thing. Now, as soon as a bill arrives I go on line and arrange for the payment.

I am thinking of making even more of my bills auto pay, as I have several long trips planned next year, and auto pay might be a very good idea.

They allow online bill pay for businesses but not nonprofits, which makes no sense.

I am a signer on our nonprofit's bank account but it would need their board's approval to move the account. The accountant likes some of the features/records they offer that make his job easier, so they may not take my suggestion to move the account.

This is purely a Wells Fargo rule; there is no federal rule against a nonprofit doing online bill pay. I know this because I am a director of another nonprofit that does online bill pay through Mission Federal Credit Union.

Honestly the biggest worry of all today was the bullet; sitting here late at night in front of my window I can't help feeling nervous.

and present your case to the board. Point out that this is the same Wells Fargo that cheerfully ripped off thousands of people not that long ago. And that you really should be doing business with a local bank.

I bank with a local bank and am very happy. Others have pointed out that credit unions can be a good choice.

I much prefer them and they always help me and seem to never pull the same crap as banks.

Sorry about your day. I hope tomorrow and your weekend do well for you.

Was able to get coffee this morning from one of the church's this morning.

Been going crazy since the 31st because I went through my apartment for the last time trying to find my birth certificate and social security card. Was not able to find them. I had them in a lock box. So trying to get help to get new ones.

Been trying to eat a little today but finding it hard.

Found a super dark place to sleep. Was sleeping till I don't know how many cop cars came by with lights and sirens blasting.

Still hiding in the spot. Luckily there is a WiFi connection so I was look up places that I can try to get help with the paperwork problem. And read DU to calm down.
