What is unique about the number 26?
And no, not the mystic/psychic 26 stuff.

(65,344 posts)know the answer, and my patience is limited, so I had to know it right away.

(4,554 posts)i.e. if you don't already know the answer or can't look it up, the odds of coming up with the answer independently are pretty low for virtually anyone, even a mathematician, I would guess.

(52,227 posts)26 is uniquely the largest integer less than 27
It's also uniquely the smallest integral multiple of 13 greater than 13.
But that's probably not what you had in mind....
it's something a little neater than that.

(43,049 posts)26 is the only number between a square number and a cube number.
But that's probably not the expected answer.
Disaffected
(4,554 posts)that's it!
Now, for extra points, prove it.
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)but I can't prove either one.

(4,554 posts)there is that about it alright.

(33,518 posts)...number to have a sum of digits that is a perfect cube: the second even number to factor into a two digit prime number; it is the first number to come between a perfect square and a perfect cube...
Are any (or all) of these "right?"

(4,554 posts)26 is the only number to come between a square and a cube.
It's the only that I find particularly intriguing.

(33,518 posts)There probably is such a proof, but if so, I'm unaware of it.

(4,554 posts)I can't verify it but it sounds reasonable.
