Last night, I told a joke to my students. It fell flat due to the age gap. I'm old....

Did you hear about the two TV antennas that got married?

They say the ceremony was terrible, but the reception was great!

(My students didn't get it. They didn't know what a TV antenna was.)

I haven't felt my age that profoundly for awhile, but it slammed home to me at that moment!

across the street is a retired high school geometry teacher. He always has stories about how his jokes fell flat. He even commented on the lack of recognition on the part of his students about a Wizard of Oz picture he had up, trying to inspire his students to have a brain, a heart, and courage.

11. I think young people don't watch TV at all...aside from streaming on their phones.

I teach mostly low-income students whose only device tends to be their phones.

No TVs, computers, tablets....just phones.

It is such a different world from when I was their age....

This confuses their grandparents.

Our oldest kid and spouse have a television in their home, but no remote control. They stream everything to the television from their phones using Chromecast. They don't even have a DVD player.
