California woman who dreamed she ate her engagement ring has surgery after waking up to find she actually didhttps://abcnews.go.com/US/california-woman-dreamed-ate-engagement-ring-surgery-waking/story?id=65622283
A San Diego woman has had surgery after dreamed she was forced to eat her engagement ring woke up to discover that she had actually eaten it.
Jenna Evans was deep asleep on Tuesday night when she dreamed that her and her fiancé, Bobby, were on a high-speed train facing off with bad guys and during the fight Bobby told her she had to swallow her engagement ring to protect it from them, she told ABC San Diego affiliate station KGTV.
When she woke up, however, she saw that the ring was gone and immediately knew what had happened.
"When I woke up and it was not on my hand, I knew exactly where it was," Evans said. "It was in my stomach."

(115,280 posts)Granted, the retrieval process would have been icky, but it would also have been less painful and expensive.

However, endoscopies are minimally invasive procedures, NOT SURGERY. Thus my point absolutely remains.

(22,119 posts)The CPT codes for all the various "scopies" are in the surgical section of the CPT code book.
"The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes offer doctors and health care professionals a uniform language for coding medical services and procedures to streamline reporting, increase accuracy and efficiency.
CPT codes are also used for administrative management purposes such as claims processing and developing guidelines for medical care review". from the AMA website
There are a number of procedures which don't appear to be surgery which in fact are, like catheter insertions. If it goes in the body it's actually invasive and is considered surgery.
Believe me there is a code for everything. I spent years making sure the right codes were used for the service rendered when I was a claims analyst.

(101,730 posts)because endoscopy CAN be used for punch biopsies and other minor surgery procedures. In this case, it is being used for foreign body retrieval.

To me an endoscopy isn't really surgery.

(22,119 posts)intestines. This is a very bad thing. Using a scope to find it and then grab it and get it out of her stomach most likely saved her from helluva mess later. If it was causing pain in the stomach which is not small, it would have been excrutiating if it got down into the small bowel which is.
It is surgery; if it goes into your body it's invasive and is classified as surgery by the AMA.

"She takes the ring off before she goes to sleep."
Upper endoscopies are very common.
