"Guinea pigs are very common pets there and the Swiss adore them, treating them as family members.
"The reason for this law is that theyre social species, so they are considered victims of abuse if they arent able to regularly interact with others of their species.
"That is why the country has taken legal measures to ensure they are given the same rights and protections as individuals."

(1 post)Switzerland is an amazingly small and beautiful country. Not surprised they would have all kinds of rules
and regulations about animal rights. They also have very strict laws about other things too. We can appreciate
this news while our country under the craziest President ever is rapidly losing control over vanishing species
not to mention environmental protections that affect the habitat for wildlife in our country.
What's also cool about der Schweiz is that the Palais des Nations (original headquarters of the
League of Nations of the 1930s) is located in the city of Geneva...where the 2nd largest UN office
building sits too.

(1,568 posts)My daughters guinea pig, Skye? Most cantankerous, anti-social pig Ive ever seen. Loves people, tolerated her late mate - attacks everything else. Except our Boston Terrier. She tolerates him, too.
