5. This reminds me of a "spite statue" erected by a local woman after a dispute with a tribal chairman.

She's an artist on a Native American reservation and put up a large statue of a middle finger gesture which the tribe tried to force her to take down. Last I heard, it was still standing:

9. Sort of happened locally

Guy bought an old house on many acres, located on a busy road, with the intention of subdividing the land and making big $$ selling it for a housing development. The township kept turning his request to subdivide. So he painted the house Day-Glo hot pink. Years later he still owns the land with a vacant hot pink house on it.
