A 19th-century dutch pirate-shanty. "Men with Beards"

Dunkirk, a dutch port-town in what is nowadays France, was a pirate-haven to spanish, flemish and french corsairs in the 17th and 18th century.

The original song was written in dutch in Dunkirk sometime in the early 19th century. It was translated to german and rewritten to a comedic sea-shanty in mid 20th century.

The content is simple: "Only men with beards may join this pirate-crew!"

original dutch version

german version (with english subtitles) as performed "Pirates of the Carribean"-style by Santiano
