(42,862 posts)It's supposed to be a classy and elegant night... not a night-club or call-girl fashion show. I blame Melania Trump for her Baroque Bordello trashy fashion sense.

(4,516 posts)Tomorrow at 9:00 AM we are going to a nude beach clean up at Ricon in CA. 9-21
It is beach clean up in CA.
There is nothing lude about being nude. We feel we are more in tune with nature. We accept each other no matter what our bodies look like. Its liberating.
Modesty is a learned thing like racism is. We have friends who raised their kids without teaching modesty. They are normal adults now.
We spent our early married years at a family nudist club. People off all ages.
My wife and I met there. We are normal healthy people married. 36 years.

ones sexiness as though selling wares, rather than helping to make the evening glamorous, classy,
special.
Nudity per se is not offensive or tacky. It is natural.

(4,516 posts)imagination that gives you sexual thoughts when you see those dresses.
We had a thread here a few days ago where the poster was upset because young girls wore thong swim suits.
It is what Frued called the reaction formation. There is something about yourself you dont like and you project it onto those who remind you if it. The poster probably did not like that he liked seeing the girls. He felt guilty so he projected something negative about them for reminding him of his guilt,

(14,961 posts)13, she had a one piece bathing suit that was cut in such a way, I found horrifying. It was what I was imaging boys/men thinking when they saw her in it. I wore my share of skimpy bikinis as a teen in the 90's, but that bathing suit(which she still has and it still bothers me) in particular makes me feel like such a prude. She just turned 18 and is almost naked now when they go to the beach/in the pool.

(6,199 posts)at appropriate places like the beach. But AFAIC most of those gowns are just poor designs. Some of the most elegant dresses and gowns I've ever seen show very little skin. One of the best was at a dress-up night at a convention some years back. The lady looked like a Greek goddess and the only skin showing was her arms.

Now, I wouldn't mind seeing some more skin on the guys though.

(6,747 posts)Elegance has departed Hollywood. Dont understand why female entertainers think we want to see their body parts. Used to be fun looking at the beautiful gowns. Now the fashions have become as boring as the award shows.

(9,878 posts)its less the amount of skin than the downright fugly dresses. They spend more energy trying to show as much skin as possible than they do putting together a nice looking design.

(4,314 posts)An acquaintance posted a pic of her daughter and her daughter's husband waiting to sign a katubah, a Jewish prenuptial agreement, and her daughter had huge breasts that were practically falling out of her dress they were so exposed. And I wanted to post, Playboy would like this pic too. Then her mother posted another pic, this time of her daughter and husband dancing, and the husband had his arm way down on the daughter's body, on her behind. He was holding her ass. And then I thought to myself, I must be a prude the way I am reacting. I wanted to post my thoughts to the mother, but would probably get me kicked off her facebook.

(20,444 posts)Personally I love the gowns and how these gorgeous women wear them. But, I want to see the woman, and the gown, and know where one starts and the other leaves off....
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,750 posts)I didn't see the show, but all too often when I see still photos of what some of the women are wearing all I can think is how much better most of them would look if there were just a bit more fabric in the gown. Showing as much skin as you possibly can without local indecency laws being invoked doesn't always result in an attractive look.
