I have a rare illness with no cure.

I googled my symptoms and had to go down a long ways to find a name for it. Then I googled a treatment for it and there weren’t any. I have schotomas. I can’t see things I’m looking at. Phone, wallet or glasses. Like I looked 3 times on my desk and didn’t see them. Then the fourth time I do.

These are blind areas of your visual field usually caused by damage to the retina or visual cortex. I'm a neuroscientist who did a lot of the early studies on how vision works.

Lucky I googled my symptoms then. Kept seeing fruit flies out of my right eye. Had 2 emergency surgeries for that.
I can always count on DU.
Thanks.

cognitive strategies. Try to have a place to set things down at. When in a hurry or focused on something, they kind of go out the window.

A few years ago I experienced a deterioration in my central vision over a period of a month to a point where I would soon be a hazard to be on the road. Both my doctor and an ophthalmologist originally thought it was due to chronic migraines, but it turned out to be that I was taking way too much Niacin and when I stopped taking the Niacin it slowly improved completely.

It really is important to get a professional opinion, since a number of different things can cause vision loss or scotomas.

Also, be sure to tell your doctors what supplements and meds you are taking. In my case that turned out to be the key to the entire puzzle.

Good luck! Vision loss is scary as hell. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Please let us know what happens. And don't assume the worst, because there could be some explanation and some way to help this situation out.

That is the way I took your post probably because it is the Lounge.
I know that I sometimes don’t see what is apparently in front of me. I figure it is just that I was distracted or little fairies moved things to entertain themselves.
