(62,406 posts)I am thinking he will not go as far as James.
Note: my history of predictions stinks FWIW.

(62,406 posts)The other day when Jason(?) had a real challenge and after watching James' amazing run.
Like so many things in life the old 80/20 principle seems to be in effect on Jeopardy also. 80% of the wins will be by 20% of the contestants. Those like Jason and James are in an upper 1% or so.
As with many endeavors in life that very top is really so far beyond the vast majority lesser contestants. Then those that are in the upper 20% need some real breaks to beat one of the great ones - like finding all the Double Jeopardies and some misses by an opponent.
So lining up tough competition is kind of a numbers game. Folks pass the tests but Jason is just so much better.
I was thinking of great basketball players. In the history of Bball there are a few greats, some just a shade less , a few more that are memorable and then the rest. One of these days a combo of a bad day by Jason and some breaks and it will happen.
Until then I am kind of thankful we have had those two to enjoy these past few months. The numbers just kind of dictate that it may be a long time until another one comes along.
Hope that made sense.

(268,931 posts)I think the same is true in many sports and many spheres - there are only so many greats in any field. The one thing that may be a little different here is the luck associated with the doubles. That said I have seen some of the great Jeopardy players win some games without the doubles.
