No filters, mixing, editing, or...well, the voice that went into the mic is what we hear.

(51,974 posts)Ugh indeed. Incredible talent and just getting started on what could have been a huge collection of amazing tracks.
Brought me back to when Karen carpenter died. Different style of music, but similarly an incredible talent we lost far too soon. A voice like no other.
I heard will you still love me tomorrow recently on the radio, she owns that song now as far as ism concerned. Carole King's version just sounds wrong now, which is really saying something.

(7,879 posts)theory. Yep, it's pretty complicated. Most of us didn't wake up one day and say "I think I'll drink until I black out and/or do drugs that could possibly ruin my life and the lives of those I love. Just sayin'.....

(7,298 posts)Been smoking pot since 1972. Took some LSD, never went for cocaine. No cigs, no alcohol.
I was headed down that road, but I exited early. I never fault anyone for their vices, but they do have a choice.

(36,814 posts)So even if you have a psychological addiction to those things you can break it with a choice.
Many if not most of the things she was using are physically addicting which means that choice has been largely removed. You can actually die from alcohol withdrawal and suicide is a serious side effect of trying to go cold turkey with many of the things she was using.
With some substances it's not a matter of making a choice to continue doing it. It's more accurate to say one has to make a choice to stop and then go through a process of breaking the physical addiction even before the psychological addiction can be addressed.
That's why I think it's so important to legalize cannabis. Even if you only consider the legal alternative which is alcohol, the downward spiral that people get caught up with is sometimes inescapable.
