Sony and Marvel strike deal on Spiderman, will share custody.

https://io9.gizmodo.com/sony-and-marvel-strike-new-deal-to-keep-spider-man-in-t-1838527425

After the shocking news that Marvel and Sony’s backroom deal to share the rights to one of the most popular superheroes in the world broke up last month, it seems the tumultuous saga is already over: the two studios have announced a new deal to co-produce a third entry in the Spider-Man: Homecoming series.

Deadline reports that as part of the deal, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce the film alongside Amy Pascal. The deal will also allow Tom Hollland’s iteration of Peter Parker to appear in future films in both Sony’s fledgling spider-verse of potential movies and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The way I read the hints, the plan of the MCU is to use Spiderman as a main-character in Phase IV of their franchise. (Maybe one of the Peter-Parker-as-a-tech-CEO storylines from the comics.)
At the same time, Sony is trying to build their own franchise from the heroes/villains that belong to Spiderman but that Marvel doesn't have the rights to.

One sticking point in addition to the money was Spider-Man appearing in the other Spiderverse movies (Venom and Morbius for example). I always liked the idea of an older Spider-Man facing off against Venom or Morbius in a more adult oriented film. I wonder how that was resolved. Without Spider-Man Morbius is just another vampire.

The MCU has two more movies to potentially wrap up his arc.
