my team won 120-100 I'm the jammer in white. Our first home scrimmage, we sold over 1k tickets...amazing. After party...good lord. I'm still grinning.

(53,475 posts)Hope it's not that rundown barn in Lewiston where Muhammad Ali (then known as Cassius Clay) fought Sonny Liston.

(9,902 posts)this would be Midcoast Rec Center in Rockport. Our home town is Rockland
Lewiston is nasty.

(9,902 posts)we usually go down the first day, as it's free for residents, after that just the parade as my league is in it - nothing like flooding a town of normally 7k people, with over 100k in a span of five days.

(12,132 posts)been to a couple matches and had a great time. Their season is over now though.
It's funny how mean she is on the track (rink? battlefield?) and how completely opposite she is at work. Of course, she says she can get it all out in matches so she doesn't need to do it at work...

You must be tough because I have a feeling that it can get pretty rough.

(11,546 posts)that's perfect. I saw one woman called herself Riot Act which made me happy because it's a Pearl Jam album and they are my favorite band.
Perfect !

(19,842 posts)I'm seeing like 5 colors of helmets and the uniforms seem to allow for a lot of self expression.
Maine-ah
(9,902 posts)an introduction to the sport for the local people. We just did white/black. Helmets will almost always be a different color on every head, with the exception of the jammer and the pivot who wear helmet covers called a "panty". The jammer's panty has a star on it, and the pivot's panty has one stripe down the middle - our official bout shirts all match and are professionally done.

(24,461 posts)Isn't it a rush? And of course, you're the jammer, so that's an even bigger thrill when fans cheer you on for scoring points and making killer moves.
Your first interleague bout reminds me of when we first started. We played in a soccer complex away from Cleveland in 2007-2008 and drew about 1000+ for each match for 2 years straight. Sometimes, I wish I was back in those years . . . it's more authentic and underground in a rink, as opposed to the arena where BRRG plays now, which is kind of why I do ECDX every year in Philly. Feasterville's literally a three-rink circus for two days and it's lots of fun.
I was at the Midwest BrewHaHa in Milwaukee on June 2-3rd . . . NSOing it up for the North Central WFTDA leagues. So many killer refs and NSOs in one place, and invaluable experience for certification.
More people need to experience the magic that is Derby.

(2,560 posts)Ralphie Valaderez is a name that comes to mind. Loved the show.
Judging from a quick Google, it seems to be more of a woman's sport these days. In the 60s show, they also had the womens' comp, but mainly it was just the men.
But great stuff.

Anyone know how I could promote one where I live in Santa Fe?
I think I could bring about 1k people via marketing. And maybe make a little moolah for moi.
