Wagoner, a country singer, writer and producer, known for his sequined suits, signed Dolly to be part of his organization, and appear on his syndicated TV show. He was somewhat reluctant to let her leave to pursue a solo career, and the song helped smooth the break.

Dolly never gave up the rights to her song, even when Elvis begged for the song rights. She owns all of her songs. She made a killing with Whitney’s version. Employs tons of people at Dollywood. Gives free books to children.

BTW love both versions. Even without the back story, I would still love that song.

You know how someone asks if you could have dinner with someone famous who would you choose? Dolly would be in my top 3. She is so cool! And smart and a great business woman and funny and kind.

to Whitney Houston's anthem to emotional resilience. They're both good; but Dolly's original is better.
