(2,567 posts)but, unfortunately, sometimes I need info for my work that is only there. So I reactivate for 10 mins, find the info, then deactivate. Last week I got sucked into the vortex for 30 unsatisfying minutes. If only there were a clean version--I do miss seeing some people's photos etc. Not worth it, though.

(11,343 posts)I added "kayaking" on my profile and immediately an ad popped up for a kayak store. Creeped me out so bad that i deleted my account. (Which I remember being extremely difficult to do back then)

(2,343 posts)After about 10 years.
I was never active as a poster and more of a lurker.
I had the app of my phone but learned it was one of the worst apps you could have on your phone privacy-wise. It and the website tracked everything, and some things I read said it could even track you when you were signed off. I have no idea if that was true, but who the hell knows?
With Trump's election, it seemed to be so political amongst my 350 or so "friends". My political leanings were in the minority, and I grew tired of my newsfeed being constantly bombarded with pro-Trump shit. Also, I learned over time that many people I liked were Trump fans. Cherishing most of those friendships, I just as soon bury my head in the sand and not how know many of them thought. I need breaks from politics at times and being on FB never provided a respite.
And with 2020 coming up, many of my correct -thinking Democratic friends were politically expressive on there. Some, too much, and some, I didnt agree with party notwitstanding. I didnt want to go through the primaries thinking ill of someone who advocated for someone I loathed.
Facebook became a source of aggravation in many ways, and that was on top of the privacy invasion. Plus, I think they are a company detrimental to America in many ways. I didnt want to contribute to their success in any way.
I dont miss it. Still, I do dabble with Twitter, but I'm very intentional on keeping it locked dow pretty tight to only things I agree with. I dont find it full of garbage like many do...but again, I have to work at keeping it so,
I certainly dont begrudge anyone that ises Facebook. I do see how its vital to some for various reasons.

(9,580 posts)Actually, it was pretty easy for me to do. Haven't really looked back. But then, I am at a time in my life where I pretty much want to be alone and left alone. Guess that made it easier.
