I was adopted in the US but found my Canadian biological family a few years ago. I've recently been invited to a pot luck type get together at a cousins home in Ontario, which is only an hour or two from me. We were told to bring a appetizer or such and something we'd like to drink. I really want to bring something to contribute since I feel to not do so would be rude but this is all new to me and reading the Canadian site listing what I can bring is just making my head feel like it's going to explode.
I know Canadians buy some groceries in the town near us so I figure it can't be as hard as the site makes it look right? I figure bottled soda and seltzer is safe since it's not even mentioned. Can I bring something like i normally make for pot lucks in the US like a Baked Brie dish, deviled eggs, or Amish meatballs?
Please, I could really use some help and suggestions of things I can bring across the border for this based on your experience.
TIA

(25,902 posts)Here's a recipe for something I've made for pot lucks and has always gone over well.
Ingredients
2 cans butter beans, rinsed and drained (15 ounces each)
1/2 red bell pepper, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
1/2 red onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin (1/3 palmful)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
1 large lemon, juiced
Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Toss to coat beans and vegetables evenly in dressing.
